2182 kHz is a frequency band within the High Frequency (HF) radio spectrum. It is primarily used for international distress and safety communications, including distress calls from ships and aircraft in distress, as well as emergency communications from coastal stations. It is also used for non-distress communication such as weather reports and navigational warnings. The frequency band is allocated globally for this purpose by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and its use is strictly regulated. It has been in use for maritime distress communications since the 1970s and remains an important tool for safety at sea.
